Standardul stabileste conventii privind notarea simbolica a directiei de închidere si a fetelor usilor, ferestrelor si obloanelor care se rotesc în jurul unor axe verticale în scopul facilitarii comertului international cu accesorii si componente pentru acestea. Standardul este identic cu ISO 1226:1970, continând în plus anexa nationala referitoare la notarea usilor cu mai mult de un canat
