Standardul stabileşte trei metode de determinare a lungimii discontinue; stabileşte şi metode de exprimare a distribuţiei de lungime a fibrelor. Standardul se aplică tuturor fibrelor textile discontinue, cu excepţia celor puternic încreţite. Nu se aplică mănunchiurilor fibroase de fibre liberiene
