General purpose field communication system
General communication standards for automotion systems have come a long way in the last years, bringing the concept of open system interconnection closer to general acceptance and wide spread use. EN 50170 is a standard specifying a set of solutions named General Purpose Field Communication System. The scope covers complex devices, intelligent field devices as well as simple I/Os. It is not limited to the process industry but it intends to meet the needs of most industrial domains. To date, there is no single concept able to cover the complete range of communication qualities in a simple way
