Standardul stabileşte cerinţele generale pentru construcţia, încercarea şi performanţa aparaturii acţionate electric pentru detectarea gazelor combustibile, proiectate pentru funcţionarea continuă într-o instalaţie fixă în locuri de uz casnic. Aparatura poate fi alimentată de la reţea sau de la baterie. Standardul specifică două tipuri de aparatură care să acţioneze în cazul scurgerilor de gaz de oraş, gaz natural sau gaz petrolier lichefiat (GPL)
