Standardul mai stabileste o clasificare de tipuri de piese forjate precum si un sistem de notare. Standardul nu se aplica la oteluri si aliaje inalt aliate cu proprietati speciale si la oteluri de scule cu continutul de carbon mai mare de 0,8%
